Each year the Miller County Schools choose a Teacher of the Year from their faculty. This special award is rotated among the three schools, and this year it was the elementary school’s turn to have their staff select by secret ballot their Teacher of the Year.
Principal Tina Brooks reminded the staff that this is not a popularity contest, but they should thoughtfully consider voting for a classroom teacher who exemplifies the qualities of being an outstanding instructor, one who loves students and strives for their success, and works well with peer teachers.
When the votes were counted, fifth grade teacher Suzanne Wolfe was chosen. Suzanne is the daughter of Charlie and Callie Mae Wolfe of Colquitt. She is a 2003 graduate of Miller County High School who knew at graduation that she desired to be a teacher. She received her associates of arts in education from Bainbridge College in 2005, and then transferred to Albany State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. Suzanne continued her training from Albany State University by obtaining a master’s degree in early childhood education in 2008.
Suzanne states, “I am proud to be a part of the greatest profession in the world. I am truly blessed to have a wonderful support system, along with a zest for life and a love for teaching. My philosophy of education is simple; I strongly believe that what students need and what they want may be very different. It is my job to educate the students to appreciate the things they need. I will continue to work hard and to teach my students to believe in themselves, to never give up and to take failure as a learning opportunity.”
Principal Brooks is proud of the entire faculty at Miller County Elementary School because of their dedication and hard work and especially proud that “Miss Suzanne” was chosen for this distinguished award.
