Mr. E. Marvin Sheffield, age 92, of Colquitt died Friday January 8, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fletcher Sheffield officiating. Interment followed at Colquitt City Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers were Terry Toole, Carl Long Jr., Christopher Sheffield, Michael Sheffield, Samuel Sheffield, and Joe Henning.

Mr. Sheffield was of the Methodist faith. He was a veteran of WWII, serving 39 months in the Pacific War Theater for which he received three commendations for bravery. Mr. Sheffield owned and operated Sheffield Service Station in Colquitt for 35 years and ran the Sears Catalog Store in Colquitt for 13 years. After retiring, he helped his son at Colquitt Funeral Home as long as his health permitted. He also served as a city councilman.

Survivors include two sons, Ernie (Susan) Sheffield and Danny (Lee Anne) Sheffield, both of Colquitt; and eight grandchildren, Michael (Kyndall) Sheffield, Christopher Sheffield, Samuel Sheffield, Matthew Brooks, William Brooks, Megan Sheffield, Danielle Sheffield, and Matt Sheffield; and one sister-in-law, Lydia Sheffield, Colquitt.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
