Miller County Middle School Basketball Highlights

Miller County Middle School Girls’ Basketball Team Miller County Middle School Girls’ Basketball Team The Miller County Middle School basketball season came to an end before the holidays, and here is an overall games’ highlight. The girls’ team was coached by Coach Courtney Chapman and the boys’ team by Maurice Grant.

In the game against Pelham Middle School, our team fell short of the win with the final score of Hornets’ 43 to the young Lady Pirates’ 29. Mallory Diamond was the top scorer with a total of 22 points while Brianna Freeman hit 27 for the Hornets.

The next game was over in Early County as the young Lady Pirates took on the ECMS Lady Bobcats. It was a heart-breaker for our girls as they fell short, 39-20. Mallory Diamond was the top scorer with 19 points.

In the Lady Pirates’ next game, the young Lady Pirates came up short with the win, falling short 31- 20. Mallory Diamond was the top scorer, hitting 17 out of the 20 points that were scored.

Miller County Middle School Boys’ Basketball Team Miller County Middle School Boys’ Basketball Team Next our MCMS girls traveled to Baker County to face the Lady Bears. This game was a tough one as our girls fell 52-40. Mallory Diamond scored 30 out the 40 points that were scored for our team. Congratulations, Mallory!

Then our girls hosted SCMS Lady Indians and what a game it turned out. Mallory Diamond again was the top scorer for our Lady Pirates with 21 points, followed by T. Holmes with 10 points. The final score ended 38 for the Lady Pirates to 13 for the Lady Indians.

In this next game, our girls won 34-17 with Mallory Diamond adding 25 of the 34 points to the board. Top scorer for the other team was Brandie Buie with 11 points.

Our MCMS Lady Pirates hosted Pelham’s Middle School Lady Hornets and fell short of a victory, 46- 30. Again Mallory Diamond scored 29 out of 30 points for the young Lady Pirates. This young athlete is awesome to watch! Brianna Freeman was the top scorer for Pelham with 19 points.

Miller County Middle School Cheerleaders Miller County Middle School Cheerleaders This next game was over in Cougar Country, and our girls put those young cats back into their cages with the win of 32-24. Mallory Diamond scored 30 of the 32 points while Brianna Buie scored 16 points for the Cougars.

Our MCMS Girls hosted the Baker County Lady Bears in a great game with both teams playing neckand neck right down to the horn. Our young girls were able to pull off the win 48- 46. Mallory Diamond hit 31 points; Tykeria Holmes hit 8 points while Israel Perkins added on 7 points. Alexandria Carter hit 30 for the Lady Bears.

In the boys’ game, SCMS boys defeated our MCMS boys, 43-31. Top scorer for the young Pirates was Brandon Benton with 11 points and for Seminole J. Smith with 15 points.

The boys’ game was different with the young Pelham Hornets defeating our boys, 33-23. Chris Jackson was the top scorer for the young Pirates with 10 points.

In the boys’ game, the young Pirates defeated the MS Bobcats 36-21. T. Benton was the top scorer for Miller with 13 points, followed by Chris Jackson and Brandon Benton, each adding 9 points.

In the boys’ game, Miller County defeated the Bears, 55-14, with T. Benton being the top scorer with 15 points, Brandon Benton hit 12 points, Jake Warren hit three 3s solid in first quarter plus to add 11 points while Chris Jackson tacked on 10 points.

On November 19, our boys hosted the SCMS Indians, and this was a great game! Top scorer for the young Pirates was Chris Jackson, hitting 17 points. Jake Warren had 9 points, and Brandon Benton added 7 points. Top scorer for Seminole was J. Gray with 10 points.

In this next game, our boys dominated with the final score of 40-21, Chris Jackson was the top scorer with 14 points, Jake Warren followed with 8 points, and Tyrone Curry added 5 points.

Our boys traveled over to Pelham to face a tough game against the MS Hornets. Jake Warren was the top scorer hitting four 3s and finishing with a total of 18 points. Brandon Benton followed with 5 points, Chris Jackson added 4 points. The final score was Hornets, 35, and Pirates, 31.

Again our boys had to take to the road to travel into some danger grounds to face the Calhoun County Middle School Cougars. They were able to bags several before coming home. Brandon Benton was the top scorer with 14 points, followed by Chris Jackson with 13 points, and Jake Warren was popping in those three pointers with ease during the first quarter giving him 9 points. The final score was Calhoun, 24, and Pirates, 54.

The final game of the season came between the Pirates and Bears, and our boys played their hearts out to win with a score of 71-12. Chris Jackson hit 16 points, Jake Warren hit four 3s plus to finish with 15 points, Tyrone Curry tacked on 11 points, Brandon Benton finished with 10 points.

Let’s not forget about our Middle School cheerleaders and their coaching staff. A team would not be complete without cheerleaders. These are the cheerleaders of 2009, beginning with Captain Ahlya Branch, Co-captain Elexus Heard, Lexi Cross, Haley Heard, Camille Roland, Marisa Jones, Brittany Weeks, Tori Green, Peyton Brice, Courtney Johnson, Abi Cunningham, and Sky Stovall. A big thank you goes out to Coach Jennifer Roland and Coach Tammy Vann for dedication to their work and support. Ms. Roland and Ms. Vann are great teachers and coaches, and we appreciate everything you do.

It was a great season for our Middle School basketball teams. As you can see, we have a lot of potential athletes for the up and coming varsity years. A big thank you goes out to the parents for their supports, our coaches for their time, our middle school principal Coach Killingworth, and to our school. We have a great school system with great kids, great teachers, and awesome administrators. Let’s be proud of what we have here in Miller County! Go, Pirates.
