Deer me!
Deer me! Overturned convertible heavily damaged.
A one vehicle accident occurred Monday, December 18, between 9:00-9:30 a.m. on SR 45 south of Colquitt. When the accident was reported in, the caller stated that they heard brakes screech and a bang.
E-911 office dispatched sheriff's officers, EMS and Fire and Rescue since an overturn was reported.
Christopher H. Vaughn, 30, of Iron City was travelling north on SR 45 south toward Colquitt. As the driver rounded a curve just past Helms Road intersection, he stated that a deer ran across the highway.
The driver said he attempted to miss the deer by crossing to the southbound lane and pulling back across the highway. He lost control of convertible as he went off the east right-of-way. The auto struck a tree with a glancing blow and overturned. The driver stated that he was glad that he was small enough to get down low enough to crawl out the window uninjured.
The auto driven by Vaughn was a rental car and sustained extensive damage.
The incident was investigated by TFC2 J.C. Roberts of GSP Colquitt. One citation was issued for failure to maintain lane.
