Bainbridge -A Fleming Street resident saved his neighbor from losing over $3,000 of items being stolen from his home on Tuesday night.
The good neighbor heard something at about 1 a.m. and looked out his window. In the house across the street he spotted a shadow move across a window, where he knew his neighbor was out of town, and dialed 911.
Minutes later Public Safety was on scene. Officers searched the area around the home and found a broken back window evident of a break-in. The officers entered and searched the vacant home confident they had someone trapped. A thorough search, including the attic area, resulted in no one being found.
Officers did find, however, a number of items that had been collected and were sitting by the window. Apparently these were on their way out when they arrived.
On the opposite side of the adjacent back yard, he discovered several pieces of lawn equipment and electronics hidden close to the bushes. In a further look into the bushes, he discovered a set of four tires with expensive 24” rims. All the items were identified as being from the residence.
Investigator Chris Jordan arrived on scene, and officers followed several leads into the night.
Cairo - A facility used to warehouse some city of Cairo property was burglarized over the weekend, and spools of copper wiring were stripped from the building and hauled away. Cairo police are investigating the incident but have few leads to follow.
City employees discovered the break-in Monday morning when they reported to work at the Heritage Industrial Complex to house operations that were formerly located in the EJD building that was demolished last year.
Spools of copper wire were stolen, along with copper that had been jerked out of conduits inside the building; a chain saw was also missing, and a forklift was damaged. Cairo Police Chief Keith Sandefur said the value of the stolen property is estimated at about $7,000.
The perpetrators apparently gained entry to the building through a roll-up door on the north side of the building.
Chief Sandefur said his investigators have little evidence to follow.

The victim, who was not wearing a seatbelt according to the report, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
