Bainbridge -A car, with an apparent accelerator problem, crashed one car, nicked a pickup, destroyed a brick column and crashed storefront windows at the Bainbridge Mall yesterday before coming to a stop on the sidewalk. "It was a heck of a good piece of driving not hitting anyone or damaging any more than she did, BPS Officer Collin Hastey stated.
Major Walter Landrum explained that the driver was thought to have hit the accelerator instead of the brake as she was turning behind Taco Bell to its drive-through window. He stated the brake and accelerator are very close together on the car. Major Landrum stated that after the car struck another vehicle, it continued across the mall parking lot, slightly hitting a pickup, on its way to its resting place on the sidewalk.
Clarisse Clark, 73, of Camilla was driving a 2010 Ford Taurus she had owned for only about three weeks. We understand they had returned several times to Albany Ford to have the accelerator checked.
Billie Durham, the driver of the vehicle struck, was on her way to buy some shoes when the Taurus came through the Taco Bell flower bed and struck her. Her white vehicle spun 90 degrees and ended up straddling a curb. Ms. Durham suffered some bruises in the crash.
Apparently as Ms. Clark headed towards the store, she was able to turn the runaway car through the column and then down the sidewalk. Several of the front windows were crashed between the flying bricks and her Taurus brushing the frame as it went by.
No doubt there will be an extensive investigation into the specific cause by the insurance companies as the accelerator was found dangling after the crash.
Clarisse Clark, and her passenger, Barbara Hobbs, 71, also of Camilla, were transported to the hospital for what was said to be non lifethreatening injuries.

Close to 200 sexual images were found on his Blackberry, which led to sexual exploitation of a child charges.

Earlier Mitchell County investigators had received a call from the family of a four-year-old on November 5.
According to Mitchell County Sheriff's Office authorities, the four-yearold came to her parents and told them Ricky had touched her inappropriately. Randle had been staying with the family.

Havana - Havana's Burger King Restaurant suffered damage Saturday when a pickup drove through the doorway into the facility, ending up in front of the sales counter and against the drink machines. Fortunately there were no patrons lined up in front of the counter, and no injuries were reported after EMS checked the driver, his passenger, and on-duty Burger King employees, who all refused treatment.
Ronnie McBride of Havana, 68, told police he had just exited the Burger King and started his truck. As he put it in gear, the truck accelerated forward into the front door of the restaurant. The truck continued forward through the lobby area and struck the north wall of the building.
During the investigation, due to the skid marks left inside the restaurant, it appears that the vehicle continued trying to accelerate with the driver touching the gas.
