Warriors Come Up Short in Opening Week
23 Andrew Stone, #20 Teel Massey, #40 Bill Grimsley, and #22 Danny Doster set up play defense.
The SGA Warriors opened up their basketball season on Monday, November 30, versus the Randolph Southern Patriots.
The Warriors fell to the Patriots 56-62 in the opener.
The Warriors were led in scoring by Danny Doster, who had 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Andrew Stone had 16 points and 9 assists.
The Warriors had three starters sitting out Monday’s game because of injuries. “The leadership and hustle displayed by the two seniors on the floor (Stone and Doster), was something I haven’t seen in years here,” said Head Coach David Byrne. Stone and Doster battled along with the other Warriors all night long. “I could be nothing but proud of the guys after seeing their effort. With only having three practices and missing three starters, I believe they did a stand up job,” said Coach Byrne.
The Warriors traveled to Camilla Friday night to face off against the Westwood Wildcats. The Warriors jumped early on the Wildcats to a 10-2 lead. The Warriors’ offense then stalled out for a period of time, and Westwood was able to capitalize. The Warriors’ defense was stingy, only allowing 44 points but on offense the basket seemed to have a cap on it that the Warriors couldn’t get off as the Warriors fell 44-23.
Andrew Stone led the Warriors with 10 points while Danny Doster had another great night on the boards with 13 rebounds.
The Warriors will host Westwood Friday, December 11, middle school games starting at 4:00 and varsity games tipping off at 6:30 p.m.
