The Colquitt/Miller County members and guests of Chamber of Commerce enjoyed the monthly First Friday Breakfast meeting.
Chairman Anthony Cobb welcomed the large crowd, special guest, Representative Gerald Greene, and thanked Birdsong Peanut for hosting the meeting.
Chairman Cobb then asked for community reports from those present. Some who reported were
MCS Principal Robert McIntosh, who told that the school had a 19 percent increase in writing tests, thanks to English teachers Christy Whitaker, Leann Walton and KaCee Holt.
Leigh Thompson told of how her program was working with the U.S. Census to recruit people to work.
Hope Cleveland reported on the DFACS Secret Santa program.
Billy Roland from the Spring Creek Recreation Board stated that the Christmas lights at Spring Creek Park would be turned on over the weekends, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the entire week of Christmas.
COC President Veryl Cocky announced that Representative Gerald Greene and Senator John Bullock would be the featured speakers at the next First Friday Breakfast in January 2010.
A report was given on the new COC sponsored Leadership Conference by Representative Greene and Terry Taylor.
A new COC member, Jerry Snipes, of Colquitt Conditioned Air was recognized.
The program was then turned over to the Birdsong Peanut people.
Valorie Mock gave a presentation on Peanuts 101 and what they mean to this area and the U.S.A. Everyone enjoyed the peanut trivia.
Sally Wells gave a very informative presentation on peanuts from the field to the shelling plant.
LeaJean Manry gave an enjoyable program concerning the Peanut Proud Festival and the plans to hold another festival in Blakley on March 27, 2010.
Birdsong Peanut gave gift bags to those who attended the meeting. They were filled with the goods made from the only product they have to work with, peanuts!
