by Terry Toole

Firemen from three departments did a good job with what they had to work with. Firemen from three departments did a good job with what they had to work with. As I was returning home from Albany Saturday night, a home was burning at mile marker 22, north of Newton. The Baker County Sheriff’s deputy had arrived, but the fire departments were just coming in. They did not have too much to save when they got there.

It was a hot fire as Newton Fire Department arrived at the scene. The brick home was totally involved.

Fire Chief Andy Belinc stated that the cause of the fire was undetermined. It is still under investigation. He said that this community was very fortunate to have other fire departments who come and assist with fires.

Patmos Fire Department and Ichaway Fire Department came in to help fight this fire. More than 20 firefighters were on the scene knocking down this fire.

The home’s owner, Ms. Cheryl Foster, was a patient in an Albany Hospital when the fire occurred.
