MCES News
Excitement is filling the air at MCES as the Christmas holidays slowly approach. We have many different activities planned for the students before they go home for the holidays. On Thursday, December 10, the MCES Chorus, along with the MCHS Chorus and MCHS Band, will present their second annual Christmas Concert. We will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the New School Cafeteria. Admission will be $2.00. All proceeds will be divided among the Chorus Department and the Band Boosters. Last year’s concert was a huge success, and we look forward to getting everyone into the Christmas Spirit again with our Christmas selections. Please come out and support these students as they enjoy filling the holiday season with music.
On Friday, December 11, the third graders will be taking a field trip to Thomasville, GA. There, they will have the awesome opportunity to watch the South Georgia Ballet Company present The Nutcracker at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium. This is a very exciting and educational trip for the students, and we are looking forward to taking them.
Christmas time is the season for giving, and this year, as in the past, we are giving all the students at MCES the opportunity to buy Christmas gifts for their family and friends. Our annual Christmas Store will be open on Monday through Thursday, December 14 -17. All proceeds will go to the PTO and MCES Music Department. Our PTO will be working in the store this year, so please contact Martiele Pickle if you can help in any way. We do need new or slightly used items donated to the store as well as gift wrapping items (tape, wrapping paper, bows, bags, etc.). If you are willing to donate any of these items, please bring them to the MCES office, and we will house them at the school. Thank you for your support of this project. The students enjoy doing their own Christmas shopping for their family and friends, and it teaches them the true “reason for the season.”
Last but not least, Mrs. Terri Johnson and Mrs. Becky LaGuardia’s fifth grade reading classes will be presenting a play called “A Snow White Christmas.” The students have been working extremely hard learning their parts for this production. They will be performing the play on Wednesday, December 16, for the students at school and admission will be $2.00. On Friday, December 18, at 7:00, they will be performing again for the public, and admission will be $1.00. All performances will be held at the old high school lunchroom. Please come support these fifth graders as they perform for you “A Snow White Christmas.”
As you can see, the students as well as the faculty at MCES have a busy few weeks ahead of them before they go home for the holidays. We invite you to please take part in whatever your child is involved in this Christmas season. Whether it is attending a class party, a concert, or even visiting your child’s classroom, your presence in their life is the best present you can give them this holiday. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the faculty and staff at Miller County Elementary School.
