It was an alcoholic’s dream come true. There was beer strewn all over the right-of-way of SR 91 highway. The smell alone would make most anyone a little tipsy.

A roll-over accident involving a semi truck was called in to 911 at 6:45 a.m. Friday morning, November 27. The caller advised that a semi truck had overturned on Highway 91 north near the intersection of Johnny Freeman and Wright Calhoun roads.

Miller County Sheriff’s Department, EMS, fire and rescue units, and GSP were dispatched to the scene.

When the rescue workers arrived, they found that the driver was already out of the overturned vehicle. He was complaining of injuries, but refused treatment by Miller County EMS.

According to the accident report, the incident occurred when driver, Steve Alan Viers, 53, of 857 Rattlebox Road, Chipley, FL, was traveling south on GA 91.

Viers lost control of the 2006 Kenworth tractortrailer filled with beer, and slid 459 feet, striking a Georgia power pole before overturning. The truck travelled an additional 15 feet to its final rest on the west shoulder of the roadway.

The truck was registered to Wiley Sanders Truck Lines Inc. out of Troy, AL. and was loaded with Miller Lite beer.

The accident report indicated that the accident was caused due to the driver lost control. He was wearing safety equipment. The tractor/trailer sustained extensive damage, and the beer that wasn’t burst and broken was well shook.

Trooper J.W. Kirkus of GSP Colquitt post was in charge of the investigation. No citations were issued.
