101 and counting

by MCL staff writer

Ms. Ruther Jernigan Ms. Ruther Jernigan Ms. Ruther Jernigan, a resident of Miller Nursing Home, celebrated her 101st birthday last week with family and friends.

Ms. Ruther was born November 25, 1908, in Miller County. For the past four and one half years, she had been a resident of Miller Nursing Home.

According to those who work and visit the nursing home, Ms. Jernigan is a ray of hope, and just a pleasure to be around. As you pass her room, you will, most of the time, find this lovely lady in her rocking chair. She gives a great hello and smile to everyone that passes by.

Helping her celebrate were her children, Bessie Sirman, Harmon and Martha Nell Jernigan; grandson, Timmy and Becky Philmon; and great-grandsons, Josh and Dallas Philmon. She is very independent, and when it was cake cutting time, she grabbed the knife and started slicing the cake.

Ms. Ruther stated that it doesn’t seem that it has been 101 years.

She has four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Happy 101st Birthday, and many, many more!
