      A major shift is underway in K-12 education! There will be changes in how school districts approach, administer, and utilize testing information to make informed decisions. This type of testing is known as Benchmark Testing. It is an important tool used to accurately pinpoint student weaknesses against the Georgia Performance Standards, or GPS.

Lady Pirates chosen for All-Region
     Recently our Miller County softball coaches, Ms. Joni and Ms. Jara, met with the west area coaches to select the All-Region players for Region 1-A. Several Lady Pirates received honors. Jenna Phillips was chosen as Pitcher of the Year. Olivia Andrews was chosen as Defensive Player of the Year.

Miller County HOSA Celebrates HOSA Week
      The Miller County High School HOSA students celebrated HOSA week by honoring the retired teachers with a Subway luncheon and cheesecakes, which were donated by Mrs. Linda Trammell. The luncheon was held in the collaborative building with Miss Leigh Thompson as the guest speaker. A fall theme was used to decorate the inside of the building in honor of the event.

Bainbridge College, Belizean Librarians Work on Projects
      Bainbridge College (BC) hosted two librarians from Belize in October as part of an on-going cooperative program between the college and Belizean schools and libraries, said BC Library Director Susan Ralph, who has been an integral part of the initiative of the Consortium for Belize Educational Cooperation (COBEC), which she serves as treasurer.

WATERFOWLING WITH ‘CONFIDENCE’
      Many years ago, when I first heard about using “confidence” decoys to help attract ducks and geese, the idea seemed to make a lot of sense. I mean, why wouldn’t it be advantageous for a waterfowler to enhance his traditional spreads of duck blocks, goose silhouettes, and the like with a smattering of something less “ducky” and “goosey?”

Bear on the roof
      A man wakes up one morning in Alaska to find a bear on his roof. So he looks in the yellow pages and sure enough, there's an ad for "Bear Removers." He calls the number, and the bear remover says he'll be over in 30 minutes. The bear remover arrives and gets out of his van. He's got a ladder, a baseball bat, a shotgun and a mean old pit bull.

MCHS FFA NEWS
      It hasn’t been too busy of a week this week for our FFA. Unfortunately our Nov.19 meeting had to be cancelled for different reason, so we have rescheduled the meeting for Dec. 1 in the MCHS high school at 6:30. Just a little bit more news to report on, LeAndra Kelley made her way to Seminole County Wed., November 18, to compete in public speaking and placed third.

      The 2009-2010 Beta Club has begun. This year’s officers are as follows: president, Macey Richardson; vice president, Jordan Parker; secretary, Shanice Grimsley; treasurer, Kaleb Whitaker; reporter, Hunter Cleveland; parliamentarian, DeiDra Beard; and executives in office, Madison Posey and Victoria Newberry. The club sponsors are Mrs. Christy Whitaker and Mrs. Jan Calhoun.
