Well over four years ago, at the March 31, 2005, meeting of the Miller County FFA Alumni Association, the group was made aware that the present FFA truck no longer met the needs of the local FFA chapters. Since the truck was totally undependable, the agriculture teachers had to use their personal vehicles and those of involved parents to transport FFA student teams to more than 10 outof town competitions each year and for livestock projects and student visits. At that same meeting, a motion was made, seconded and approved, to establish an Ag Ed Truck Fund by taking $500.00 from the general treasury.
FFA Alumni president, Kevin Calhoun, presents keys of new ag truck to agriculture teacher, Bill Spooner.
Since that time, the account has been built up with chicken-que fundraisers, business donations, the sale of trees from the school forestry plot, and personal donations by Alumni members. With the support of the Miller County Board of Education, the FFA Alumni is pleased to be able to present the agriculture department with a 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty crew cab truck with very low mileage.
Donations were made to the truck fund by businesses, organizations and individuals. A large number of contributions were made by families in memory or in honor of their loved ones. Many persons have contributed to the success of this endeavor. We are indebted to all who have faithfully paid FFA Alumni membership dues year after year. We are also grateful to all who have helped with our chickenques by cooking, serving, and buying plates when we came around selling tick- ets. This has definitely been a community effort, and the FFA Alumni Association appreciates all of your support.
The Miller County FFA Alumni was organized in February of 1999 by Erin East, Miller County FFA president, and Bill Spooner, Miller County FFA advisor, as part of the 1998-1999 FFA Program of Activities. The local affiliate received their national charter in
August of 2001, with 24 charter members.
