Gregg Manning Gregg Manning Greg Manning, husband of Lea Henry Manning, recently joined his wife in having the honor of being inducted into a state Sports Hall of Fame. While Lea was recognized in her home state of Georgia, Greg received the same tribute in his home state of Pennsylvania. He was one of 12 singled out at the 47th annual State Induction Ceremony held on October 24, at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Wyomissing, PA.

Like his wife, Manning distinguished himself in the field of basketball. He began his career at Steel High School where he amassed 859 points in one season (1977). He broke the school record with most points in a single game with 45 points against York High. He also set a PIAA state record by scoring 57 points against Nanticoke. He was selected as First Team AP All-State and First Team UPI All State. He was a member of the 1977 Central Penn League championship team and the 1977 AAA Eastern Champions, who became state runners-up.

His high school performance earned him a full scholarship at the University of Maryland, where he was a member of the 1000 Point Club and a three-time All ACC Academic selection. He made the 1980 All-ACC Tournament Team and had the top field goal percentage (58.3%) of any guard in ACC history. He was twice named ACC Rookie of the Week and ACC Player of the Week. He led his conference in field goal percentage (64.3%), the only guard to ever do so. In 1981, Manning was named Most Outstanding Student-Athlete at Maryland and played in the two final “Sweet 16” games. After his college career, he headed to the pros as a seventh round draft pick for the NBA Denver Nuggets in 1981.

He is currently president of the Camp of Champs Life Skills Program, where he conducts camps and speaking engagements to impact the lives of young athletes. He teaches life skills through the medium of basketball and has received rave reviews from students, educators, and program directors in several states.

In addition to Greg’s wife and family in Pennsylvania, his in-laws from south Georgia, Mary Rentz and W.T. and Ruth Henry, were also attendance at the induction ceremony. In all, 17 family members, including his son, Greg, Jr., were on hand to celebrate the occasion with him.
