DFCS entertains elderly with luncheon
Fellowship, friends fun and food--lots of food, That was the scene at the First Baptist Church family center on Thursday, November 5, as the employees of Miller County DFCS entertained some of Miller County’s elder population with a scrumptious Thanksgiving luncheon.
In what has become a tradition with the local DFCS office, a Thanksgiving luncheon is held for the elderly citizens of the community every November. The aim of this luncheon is to provide a delicious meal to those who may not have a traditional Thanksgiving meal. It is also hoped that the fellowship and fun will help lift spirits of those who may not have family around to help provide them holiday spirit of the season.
After going through the line and filling plates with the abundance of food to choose from, everyone ate until stuffed with the traditional turkey, dressing, sweet potato casserole, salads, vegetables, and many other dishes. Then they had to choose from the large selection of desserts to finish off the meal. Fellowship followed with everyone enjoying visiting with friends and neighbors and even making new friends. A spirited round of Bingo finished off the event. Bingo games were played until everyone had a chance to win and be able to choose at least one of the prizes available.
The guests left the event full of food and with renewed friendships. The DFCS employees were left with the feeling that once again they had given the elderly citizens of Miller County a chance to know they were remembered and appreciated and that they have not been forgotten. It is hoped that everyone will be ready for another good time next November.
The Miller County DFCS would like to thank Miller Nursing Home for the use of the Bingo game and the First Baptist Church for the use of their fellowship hall and large kitchen.
