LIFE IS CHANGING

Last week, I believe it was, I was listening to Public Radio. I listen to it a lot. I enjoy it. 88.9. is the station.

There was a contingent of high school cheerleaders making a pitch for cheerleading to become an Olympic sport. I kid you not. I know that there is an enormous amount of time and talent that goes into what these people do on the sidelines. These young ladies were saying that competitive cheerleading was every bit as tough as golf.

I don't disagree.

Our two girls were both in the band in their high school years. Certainly it was an experience for all of us. One played the flute, piccolo, keyboard and piano. The other carried a flag and jumped around a lot. They enjoyed the experience. We became broker. And they got to travel the country. Certainly I do not regret this time. We got through it.

Maybe this is a time to introduce high school marching band as an entry.

Personally, I would entertain hopscotch, horseshoes and or horse shoeing to the direction the Olympics seem to be heading.

Doing a little research on the 'Net, I discovered that in time past, the Olympic participants performed in the natural. Naked.

I am sure that if this happened today, the TV ratings and Olympic ticket prices would skyrocket. Or would they? On second thought, maybe not.

Let us return to the true Olympics, where mankind competed in a basic and heroic challenge.

I am not against cheerleading or marching bands, but they have about as much place in the Olympics as golf, basketball or some of the other sports in this era.

Joke telling, now I could support that. Good Night, Starshine. You know I love you.
