On Friday, November 13, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a call came into E911 of a wreck near Lane Road on SR91 south of Colquitt. The call stated that a car had hit a large, black heifer, and the passenger in the car was injured.

Miller County Deputy Sheriff Dale Glover was dis- patched to the accident scene, along with EMS ambulance and rescue workers.

Both the driver, Major Martin Skinner, 71, of Newton and a passenger, Mamie Jolene Skinner, 69, of Newton were out of the vehicle when the investigator and rescue workers arrived. Mrs. Skinner was taken by ambulance to Miller County Hospital. The driver was concerned about his wife, saying he was afraid that she was injured, with possibly a broken arm. Other than being visibly shaken by the crash, he was not injured.

Mr. Skinner stated, "Me and my wife had been grocery shopping in Donalsonville and were driving very carefully since deer have been seen crossing along this area. I didn't see anything until it was too late. All of a sudden we hit something, and it came through the windshield and over the top of the vehicle." So the driver was watching out for deer but never expected to encounter a cow. According to the wreck report, Major Martin Skinner was traveling east on SR91 toward Colquitt in his 2004 Chevrolet Impala when a cow entered into his path. The collision could not be avoided. The point of impact was in the outside eastbound lane.

The auto was removed by a wrecker service as it sustained extensive damage. The owner of the cow was listed as RR Smith Farms of Donalsonville.
