Gerald Grow Post 165 honors WWII veterans

After a welcome to everyone by Commander Jim East, and especially to the WWII veterans and their guests, Chaplain Glen Sheffield gave the invocation.
A POW/MIA empty chair is placed at all official meetings as a symbol of the thousands of Americans still unaccounted for from wars and conflicts. This is a reminder for all of us to spare no effort to secure the release of any American prisoners from captivity, the repatriation of the remains of those who died bravely in defense of liberty, and a full accounting of those missing. The Empty Chair re-dedicates all veterans to this vital endeavor.
Senior Vice Commander Mickey Henley then placed the flag on the empty chair, and everyone who was able was asked to stand and give the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
After a delicious steak dinner with the trimmings, the commander made a motion to suspend all regular business.
Commander East then recognized Raymond Holt for being an American Legion member for over 50 years.
The next item was to recognize those who could attend and honor the WWII members of the local American Legion who are Alton Boyd, Si Briones, Luther Clearman, Gans Earnest, James Everson, Raymond Holt, Emory Holvay, Clifton Jones, Cohen McKenzie, Cecil McLendon, Joe McLendon, B. O. Mock, James Moore, Rassie Phillips, Walter Pierce, Julian Rust, Pat Sammon Sr., Ralph Shaw, Bob Wainright and Charlie Womble Sr.
Each of the WWII veterans present were presented with a WWII pin.
All the widows of veterans present were asked to stand and be recognized.
It was a good meeting in keeping with pride in being an American and appreciating what those who have served so that the rest of us could enjoy our liberty and freedoms.
