Bainbridge - The 10th armed robbery at a Decatur County business since June happened on Monday night, when two masked men robbed the Zip Trip convenience store located at 1006 E. River Road in Bainbridge.

According to a Bainbridge Public Safety incident report, two black males, each wearing gloves and masks and wielding guns, came into the store shortly before 8:40 p.m. Monday. The robbers took a large amount of cash from the store before fleeing. They reportedly fired a shot during the robbery, although no one was injured.

According to the report filed by Public Safety Officer Beau Harrell, who talked with the store's employees after the robbery, the robbers pointed guns at the employees and demanded money from the store's cash register. After taking all of the cash in the register, the robbers then ordered the employees to go into the store's office to get more money, which the robbers put inside a black trash bag. Then, the robbers ordered the employees into the store's refrigerated area. One of the robbers fired a shot as the employees tried to close the door into the refrigerated area, and Officer Harrell found a bullet casing on the store's floor.

Harrell also observed one of the employees' hands had been taped together with duct tape.

One suspect was dressed in all black; the other was wearing brown pants and a dark shirt.

Along with BPS officers and investigators, Decatur County Sheriff's deputies and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation also responded to the robbery on Monday night. The sheriff's office called in search dog teams from the Apalachee Correctional Institute in Sneads, Fla.

Blakely -A high speed chase across Calhoun County early Friday morning came to a deadly end in Arlington.

The driver, Chad Pierce, 34, of Leesburg, wrecked his Chevrolet Avalanche at the intersection of Pioneer and Wood Valley roads. As officers tried to get Pierce to exit the vehicle, he reportedly reached into the truck's console and glove box, causing an Edison police officer to open fire.

Multiple shots were fired by Officer James "J. D." Kopkie, a former long-time Blakely police officer. Pierce was reportedly struck by at least three shots and killed.

Investigators reported no weapon was found in Pierce's truck.

The incident began just after 6 a.m. when a Calhoun County deputy tried to pull Pierce over between Edison and Morgan after clocking his Avalanche at 90 miles per hour. Instead of stopping, Pierce reportedly sped away, leading officers on a high speed chase.

Arlington Mayor Jerome Brackins told reporters he heard the vehicles when the chase went past his house which is near the intersection where Pierce wrecked.

He stated he heard officers yelling at the driver two or three minutes before he heard the shots.

In addition to the Calhoun County officers, officers from Arlington and Edison had joined in the chase by the time Pierce wrecked.

Agents will also process the truck for evidence and review vehicle video cam footage which recorded the chase and crash.

Pierce's body was sent to the crime lab in Atlanta, but GBI agents had not received any results.

According to Calhoun County Sheriff Josh Hilton, other than the fact that several empty beer cans were found in the truck, officers have no idea why Pierce, a 1994 Calhoun County High graduate, led officers on the high speed chase.
