Little Pirates lose in play-offs
2009 Little Pirates remember a lost teammate, Devan Patterson, by presenting his jersey to his relatives in his memory. The Little Pirates lost in the playoffs this past Saturday. Early Gold beat the Little Pirates by a score of 28-6.
These little boys have played hard all season and deserve a huge round of applause for playing so hard and well.
However, on September 1, the Little Pirates lost one of their teammates in a car accident. Devan Patterson, #11, was killed in a one vehicle accident on the Brinson Highway. His father, mother and brother were all injured in the accident.
In his memory, the team gathered on the 50-yard line along with his parents and released balloons with a #11 on them. Some of the players had written special sayings on them. They also presented his parents with his jersey in a shadow box.
He will always be remembered to everyone as a special little boy who loved sports, and ball was his game.
The Little Pirates would also like to thank the businesses of Colquitt and also, Rolling Hill Farms who donated peanuts to sell and to all the merchants who donated items for a "Pirate Basket," that the players sold chances to win the basket. Evelyn Stubbs was the winner of this.
Also thanks to Mr. Terry Toole and Miss Wanda Griffin at the Miller County Liberal for allowing us to have an article about our team each week. The Little Pirates would like to thank everyone for their support this season and are already looking forward to next year.
