Thefts, burglary and stolen vehicles solved
On August 13,2009, Cpl. Mary Price responded to a burglary call on Hwy. 27 south in Miller County.
When she arrived, she made contact with the victim who advised that Sarah Graves had come into her house and was seen going out a front window.
Cpl. Price notified Investigator Ben Nix of what had happened. Ms. Graves was questioned by the officers, and she was arrested and booked into the Miller County Jail.
On August 14, Deputy Robert Grier responded to a stolen truck and criminal damage to property on Highway 45 south in Miller County. Deputy Grier contacted Miller County Sheriff's investigators and advised them
of the call. When Investigators Nix and Rathel arrived, they processed the scene. The vehicle that was stolen was damaged, and the tailgate was hanging from the rear of the truck.
The investigators saw that the tailgate had been dragged down the dirt road. When the investigators followed the drag marks, they saw where the truck had been driven through a farm's field and doughnuts cut in the crop.
Later that day Investigator Nix was contacted by a informant who advised him who had stolen the truck and did the damage to the crops.
Investigator Nix and Sergeant Brad Cox interviewed a juvenile from Miller County about the incident. He confessed to the crime. Later that night at around 11:00 p.m. the officers interviewed Jonathan Simmons who also confessed to the crime. Both subjects were charged and booked.
On August 20, Investigator Rathel received a call in reference to a stolen vehicle. The officer was advised by the owner of the truck that the vehicle had been recovered by Early County. Investigators Rathel, Nix, and Sheriff Glass arrived at Mike Cobb's residence on Mayhaw Road, and spoke with Mr. Cobb in reference to the theft.
Investigator Rathel received information from an informant of a possible suspect in the theft. The officers picked up Christina Evans and questioned her in her involvement in the theft. Ms. Evans admitted she had taken the truck from Mr. Cobb's residence. She was later charged and booked into the Miller County Jail.
On August 25, Sgt. Brad Cox was contacted by Alice Cloud who stated she had several pieces of jewelry stolen from her house along with a Play Station Portable and games. Ms. Cloud stated that she had located some of the items in a pawn shop in Bainbridge. Sgt. Cox then contacted Investigator Nix who met with Ms. Cloud.
Investigator Nix called the pawn shop and found that the items had been sold to the pawn shop. The items were recovered and placed into evidence. Investigators Nix and Rathel interviewed Amber Sayre, the person who had sold the items. Ms. Sayre confessed to taking the items from the house and was charged and booked at the Miller County Jail.
On September 7, Deputy Thomas Mitchell received a call to Hwy. 27 south to a burglary that had already occurred.
Deputy Mitchell made contact with Travis Richardson at the residence. Richardson advised the officer that someone had entered his residence and had taken all of his clothes, several DVDs and a DVD player from the residence. Deputy Mitchell requested Investigator Rathel to come to the scene. The officer arrived, and spoke with Mr. Richardson.
Investigator Rathel noticed the door had been kicked open and that Mr. Richardson's bedroom was plundered through.
There were several items of value in the apartment but nothing was taken other than Mr. Richardson's clothes and other personal items.
The scene was photographed and fingerprinted for any prints. Investigator Rathel asked Mr. Richardson if he had any idea who could have broken into the apart- ment and he stated, no.
Mr. Richardson's girl friend was also present. Investigator Rathel attempted to make contact with the neighbors to see if they had heard anything at Mr. Richardson's apartment but was unable to make contact with any of the neighbors.
On September 8, Investigators Rathel and Nix went back to Rentz Apartments and made contact with Travis Richardson's neighbors. The neighbors were able to give a possible suspect in the break-in.
Investigators Rathel, Nix and Sheriff Glass went to a residence in Seminole County to make contact with the suspect.
Upon arriving at the residence, Investigator Rathel noticed a pile of burning material in the yard. Upon further checking, the pile burning was clothes and other items taken in the burglary.
Ms. Henderson was not at home. Inv. Nix advised her daughter that Ms. Henderson needed to come the Miller County Sheriff's Office.
Later in the day Ms. Matissa Henderson came to the office and was questioned in the burglary at Rentz Apartments on Hwy. 27 South.
Ms. Henderson admitted to going into the residence and taking Mr. Richardson's personal items and taking them to her residence and burning them.
Ms. Henderson was charged and booked into the Miller County Jail.
On September 22, Investigator Ben Nix received a call from an informant that there were two black males at the old McLendon's Meat Company loading up an item in the back of their truck. The informant gave the officer the tag number of the pick-up truck.
When investigators arrived, the pick-up was gone. The owner of the property was contacted by Investigator Shane Rathel and advised of the report.
The owner checked the property, and Sgt. Brad Cox was called to make a report on the items missing.
On September 23, the investigators made contact with the owner of the pickup. The pick-up truck was borrowed by Travis Dunwood of Blakely. Investigators Nix, Rathel and Skipper of the Early County Sheriff's Office made contact with Mr. Dunwood and also located the truck at Mr. Dunwood's residence in Blakely.
Investigator Nix and Rathel interviewed Mr. Dunwood, who confessed to the crime. Later that day a second suspect was picked up at the courthouse in Early County. The second suspect was identified as Jerome Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was questioned and also confessed. Both subjects were charged and booked into the Miller County Jail.
