The supper was catered. After the meal, all of the fall sports athletes were introduced by their coaches. Once the coaches were finished, the Booster Club provided a guest speaker, Greg Manning.

Greg is a former basketball player for the University of Maryland and was also an Academic All-American. When he finished his career at Maryland, he was drafted to the NBA by the Denver Nuggets. Greg is married to former SGA alumni, Lea Henry. After high school Lea went on to play basketball at the University of Tennessee. She was also was on the 1984 USA Gold Medal Olympic basketball team and is currently the head coach of the Georgia State University women's basketball team. Together, Lea and Greg host the Camp of Champs each summer, a series of basketball camps for young children that focuses not only on basketball fundamentals but life skills.

The theme for this year's sports season at SGA is "Believe and Achieve."

During Greg's speech, he talked of how Lea was able to believe in herself and how that belief led her to achieve her goal of playing college basketball and eventually becoming a Gold Medal Olympian. He talked about how Lea became one of the 12 best women basketball players in the world in spite of the fact that she was smaller than other players and that she came from a small community that had limited physical resources. Manning continued to talk about how none of this would have been possible if Lea had not put in the time and effort it takes to better herself not only athletically but academically. He also touched on the importance of a strong support system that Lea had and that students still have at SGA. In closing, Greg said that dreams can only be achieved through hard work and belief in yourself---"you can only achieve your goals if you believe in yourself" and are willing to put forth the time, effort, and work required.

SGA's 2009 football season kicks off Thursday night in Camilla against Westwood. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The SGA softball team has already kicked off a busy season. They will be on the road for the next three games and play at home on September 10, hosting Sherwood. The JV will play at 4:00 p.m., followed by the varsity. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support all of the Warrior athletes.
