Bainbridge -The Boat Basin Road was the scene of a horrific accident on Thursday when a 16-year-old was thrown from her car, and the car rolled across her. Jessica Frith was life-flighted from the boat basin directly to Tallahassee where we understand she is in critical condition. Jessica was a passenger in the car.

The single car crash occurred a few minutes after 6 p.m. when the 16-year-old driver lost control speeding around the curve by the Boat Basin campground entrance. Don Green told us they were going so fast their cars slid around the first curve as they drove tail to tail.

Harold Smith told us that he was in the picnic area when he heard the screeching tires. He knew they were moments from a crash and took off towards them. He stated he saw the young female fly out of the car window and the car land on her and continue to flip four or five times.

Smith got there to assist the girl, and minutes later two nurses that were in the campground took over caring for her. Two EMS units arrived on scene very quickly. Public Safety Sgt. Ray Cox worked the crash interviewing witnesses and the car occupants.

Witnesses stated there were two cars flying around the curves. Todd Johnson, 20, of Iron City, was the driver of the second speeding car and,  with his passenger, watched  his friends crash in front of  him.

The 16-year-old driver  the crashed car only had a learner's permit. He and the  second passenger sustained injuries and were transferred  to the hospital by EMS. Both  drivers were issued a number of citations.

Decatur Fire and Sheriff's Deputies secured the area in front of the amphitheater for the lifeflight helicopter.

Blakely - A manhut ended Tuesday morning in Calhoun County when authorities caught a suspect who gunned down 19-year-old Cyrus Butler  of Blakely Monday afternoon in Edison.

According to a WALB news report, authorities were searching for 21-year-old Terail Pittman of Edison who reportedly gunned down Butler at the Pure Gas Station in Edison shortly after 3:30 p.m. Authorities stated the shoot- ing may have stemmed from an earlier argument between Butler and Pittman.

Pittman reportedly ditched a PT Cruiser he was driving in front of the nursing home shortly after the shooting and took off on foot. Authorities from several agencies and K-9 units searched for Pittman through Monday night.

Butler was the brother of Korynda Reed, the pregnant woman who died of gunshot wounds last year in the shooting involving Charles Grant on North Church Street.

Blountstown - A 19-yearold mother of two was arrested Thursday after leaving her small children alone at her apartment.

Darcia LaShantae Simmons of Blounstown has been charged with child neglect.

According to the Blountstown Police Department, an anonymous caller contacted them Wednesday night and advised that Simmons had left her two children alone at their home in Sutton Creek Apartments and the oldest one, approximately two years of age was outside. A concerned woman kept the children with her and contacted the apartment manager.

Ofc. Warren Tanner responded and was unable to locate Simmons. Attempts to reach her by phone were also unsuccessful.

A representative from the Florida Department of Children & Families responded, and the children were sheltered at 10 p.m. until a grandmother from Gulf County could arrive to care for them.

Simmons was booked into the Calhoun County Jail on Thursday afternoon and released the following day on her own recognizance.

Cairo - The young man accused of killing bicyclist Martin Langmaid earlier this month has been granted a reduction in his bond, but still remains in custody.

The attorney for Chaz Michael Gomez, 22, filed a motion to reduce bond shortly after Grady County Magistrate Larry Bearden originally set it at $131,000 July 2. Bearden says after holding a hearing on the motion July 17, he ruled it could be reduced by a total of $55,000; lowering the bond for the homicide by vehicle charge from $75,000 to $50,000 and leaving the scene of an accident bond from $50,000 to $20,000. The original $5,000 bond for the DUI charge and $1,000 bond for the failure to maintain lane charge were left unchanged.

"A person's entitled to a reasonable bond," Bearden stated this week, "I originally made it higher because of what the crime was, and I didn't have a lot of information in front of me."

Gomez is charged with driving drunk and hitting 53-yearold Langmaid, who was riding his bicycle on Lower Hawthorne Trail, then crashing his pickup truck 1.6 miles from where he hit the bicyclist.
