Seminole Ramlins

by Jack Wingate

It is 11-14-1965 in Drang Valley, Vietnam. Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8 to 1, you are under intense fire from 100 to 200 yards away, your company commander has ordered the medivac helicopters not to come in, you are badly wounded and bleeding a rite smart, your family is 12,000 miles away and you will never see them again.

Over the machine gun noise you faintly hear a sound of a helicopter, and finely you see it, a Huey with no medivac markings on it, Ed Freeman is coming in, he sits down and sets there until 2 or 3 of you are put on board, then up and away to the dr. and nurses, He kept coming back 13 more times until 30 of you and your buddies are out, who would never gotten out Medal of Honor recipient Ed Freeman died this passed Wednesday at age of 80 in Boise, ID, May God Rest his Soul, it has not been on the national news to my knowledge, but I think it is a fine time to Hats off to Mr. Ed Freeman this 4th of July.

For those of you that are interested, there will be a meeting of all veterans to honor the dead (such as Mr. Ed) at the Bainbridge High School Coliseum this Saterday nite.

Randy Weaver, winner of the Jack Wingate Thursday Night Big Fish Tournament Randy Weaver, winner of the Jack Wingate Thursday Night Big Fish Tournament The 8th week of the Thursday nite 7 to 10 tournament was won by Randy Weaver and Leon Weaver with a 4.4 lbs bass, second place went to Reid Heard and BJ Johns with a 3.25. The heat was a bit much.

The heat has kept folks from fishen in the heat of the day, but there has been many bass taken this week fishen early and late. Spiner baits, scum frogs and trick worms does a number on them.

However, bream beds are the most active fish we have this week, I think due to the fact that the Flint Fork is clearing up. The bream beds are very plentiful. They will take crickets by the hand fulls. There has been 10 to 15 limit catches made, with lots of smaller catches made from the beds and pitchen the grass walls.

Now let me try to explain why the crappie is slow to the bite, the shad (thredfin) has hatched out billions of shad bout as big as your thumbnail to the first joint of the thumb. These are just right for the crappie to eat, and they are too small for bass. This time of year it's best to increase the size of the trap and the size of the crank bait you are pullin. We have found out how Dallas Johnson won his tournement last week and what on. We'll tell you that it was one of the old "Ted Kelly" holes, but we promised not to tell what on.

Having been here since the lake was built and watched the corps handle floods and low water, I would say that we on the lake will see the level of the lake slowly drop down to the 2 ft. level, unless we have a hit by a hurricaine or a near miss with lots of water.

Only in America can you be "a legal illegal alean."
