Sometimes, luck is better than skill
      It was a hot, hot evening Monday, June 22, when two firemen, A. J. Rollins and Dustin Wilson, an EMT, Kristen Maddox and a nurse, Courtney Collins, from Juliette, near Forsyth, were traveling on SR 91, north of Colquitt. One of the firemen spotted a modular home on fire at 2300 Highway 91 N. They jumped out of their vehicle and started fighting the fire with a garden hose.

South Georgia's unemployment rate drops to 9.2 percent in May
      ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) has reported that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the South Georgia area declined to 9.2 percent in May, down one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 9.3 percent in April.

HIV rates highest in the South
      The new Internet data map looks at HIV on a county-by-county basis and shows that infection rates tend to be highest in the South. HIV infection rates are higher in African-American communities, and high minority populations in the South help explain the finding.
