Up The Creek Without A Paddle

One Nation Under God- In God We Trust
by Terry Toole

I agree with our President on at least one thing he said in part, "This is the best nation in the history of the world." We have been blessed by the One in whom we have trusted.

In spite of some of our leadership in the past, the present and what may come in the future, I believe that the United States of America has, and will survive.

We have had wars with many of the nations of the world. We have even fought among ourselves in the War of Aggression, known as the Civil War in which over 600,000 Americans died and over 213,000 of those were combat deaths. Even then, our nation was so divided, brother fought against brother and father against son.

Other than World War II, in which over 295,000 Americans died in combat, our Civil War was the most costly.

Seemingly since we became a United States of America almost 233 years ago, we have been in some type of war or conflict for us or some other nation. Most of the wars or conflicts we have won. The only ones where we have a "black eye" is when our nation's leaders would not allow our military to win. The Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts were going good, but our leaders have set a time for our military to leave. That, in my opinion, not only shows ignorance, but lack of experience in military leadership.

Again, in my opinion, we have had many more great generals in our nation's history than we have had great presidents. In the past 20 or more years, it seems that the voters are going for charisma and looks rather than the ability or experience of the candidate to lead and do what is best for the people who elect him or her.

Have you ever noticed, when someone is trying to get into office they are for open, transparent government? After they are there a few months, they are in closed, private and very un-transparent meetings. This change is from the very lowest to the very highest offices.

It doesn't seem to matter if they are Democrat or Republican; the saying by John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton is, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

I guess it started back with Adam and has gotten continuously worse.

There is another point, which there are many, that I disagree with our President Obama. This is a Christian nation. If you read the Preambles to all 50, not 57, states of these United States of America, you will find that every one of them, without exception, tells of our being grateful to Almighty God, God, Author of Existence, Creator, Great Legislator of the Universe, and the list goes on.

I would venture to say that no students in the past few years have been taught that this nation was founded with the Christian beliefs. The proof has been on our national currency and on most government buildings - "In God We Trust."

As one of the exceptions to the rule, Ronald Reagan, said, "If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under." Could it be that our federal courts and ACLU just might be wrong? Our legislators have lost their ability to let the courts know that they interpret the laws that the Senate and House of Representatives make them.

Our current president believes in abortion and the right of women to kill their babies in the womb. We differ on that one thing the most. One of the Ten Commandments was that we do not kill. To kill innocent babies may be forgiven, but I don't want to take that chance.Enjoy our nation's birthday. It could well be our last unless we fight for the rights we have left. Anyone for a TEA PARTY?
