Mrs. Joyce Ruth Jinks Herdrich, age 87, of Connersville, IN, died June 22, 2009.

Mrs. Herdrich was born October 31, 1921 and lived most of her young life in Colquitt until she married James R. Herdrich of Connersville, IN, on May 23, 1943. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Connersville and attended Purdue University in her 60's achieving a master gardener's degree. She was an Indiana Gardening Study Consultant and an Indiana Life Flower Show Judge. She also held a certificate of conservation environmental awareness and was involved in environmental education and endangered species.

She founded the Memorial Beautification Fund, the Fayette County Girls Scouts Fund and the First United Methodist Church Fund at the Fayette County Community Foundation. She volunteered as a candy stripe for the hospital and inspired beautiful landscaping for Habitat for Humanity, Fayette Regional Health Systems and the City of Connersville.

She was a long time member of Garden Club, ADOU, Tri Kappa Sorority, Dorothy Canfield, Civic and Awards Committee, Clio Fountain Committee, and Chamber of Commerce.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Dale Cemetery in Connersville, IN.

Survivors include six children, Jan (Jerry Rae) Hackleman, Syracuse, IN, Bill (Debbie) Herdrich, Rushville, IN, Chris (Colleen) Herdrich, Venice, FL, Bob (Tammy) Herdrich, Indianapolis, IN, Jeff (Carrie) Herdrich, Syracuse, IN, and Joyce (Doug) Wilke, Connersville, IN; 17 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; and one brother, Clyde Jinks, Colquitt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Herdrich, parents, Clyde and Ruth Jinks, Colquitt, son-inlaw, Joe Hackleman, Connersville, IN, and brother and sister-in-law, Lynwood and Peggy Jinks, Colquitt.
