Swamp Gravy goes to Leesburg

by: Martha H. Everson

Thank you and all the Swamp Gravy cast who came to Leesburg last Saturday night. You did a wonderful job, and I appreciate it so much.

I think Swamp Gravy and all that it involves is such a great thing for everyone......the audience, of course but also the cast and the crew backstage as well as the entire community. I hope those following after you will continue this project well into the future. And I believe they will.

There are so many good people in the Colquitt area who are willing to come together with their talents and capabilities to make things happen.

Sometimes I wonder if Mrs. Pollie Fudge, Mrs. Lottie Calhoun, Mrs. Nellie Davis, and their co-workers in the Colquitt Garden Club ever dreamed of a project such as Swamp Gravy coming together! But they passed the torch on to Libba Fudge, Jane Merritt, and many others enlisting the help of many capable men who passed it on down to all of you and you are surely doing well with it.

It is great that children are such a vial part of this wonderful project. It is exciting to hear people in so many places talking about Colquitt and Swamp Gravy! When I hear them, I get to tell them, "That's the way that area has always been. The majority of the people there have always helped one another and worked together for the good of the entire community." It makes me feel right proud to be able to say that!

And as I told you Saturday night, my children, grandchildren, and now my great-grandchildren just love to hear about it, too. Keep up your good work!
