Piggly Wiggly opening grand
Owners, state, county and city officials cut ribbon at the official grand opening. Blakely-Piggly Wiggly of Blakely officially held its grand opening ceremony Monday, June 29, at 8:00 a.m.
The new business, located at 113 North Main Street, is owned by Keith Howell of Geneva, AL, and Ricky Treadwell of Chipley, FL.
However, the owners are not new to the grocery business. They have been in the business for 12 years. They are owners of two stores in Dothan and one in Enterprise, AL.
The 28,000 square feet building in Blakely has been completely renovated and is very appealing to the shopping customer. Paintings and large lettering on the walls help the customers find what they are looking for, and of course, according to the owners, courteous and friendly service is what you get when you shop at Piggly Wiggly.
Barton Rice, speaking on behalf of Early County 2055, thanked the new owners for coming to Blakely. State Representative Gerald Greene also praised the new owners for what the new business will do for the City of Blakely and the surrounding towns. Other city and county officials also offered words of gratitude to the new owners and wished them success in Blakely.
Howell and Treadwell then told the crowd how they decided on opening in Blakely. "We had so many people from Blakely driving to Dothan to shop, and we wanted to save them money and gas," commented the new owners, "and here we are."
In the early afternoon on Monday, Howell stated, "We have been overwhelmed at the business we have had so far today. It has been great, and we hope it continues. We invite everyone to come and shop with us."
The new store will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
