Power outage

by MCL staff writer

If you live in or around Colquitt, you were in the dark when you got up Thursday morning, May 28.

Most of the older people who frequent the bathroom several times each night discovered that there was no electricity from about 1 a.m. until around 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

The electricity was off all over Colquitt and much of Miller County due to a main power line going into the Georgia Power transmission station in Colquitt.

A Georgia Power Company representative, Bryan Rivers, called the office to explain why the entire town and much of the county was out of power. He stated that a very large tree fell on the main line near Spring Creek. The repairmen could not get trucks or equipment to the site. They had to wade the swamp and do most of the work manually, which was very dangerous. They did a good job. No one was injured, and that is always a good day when that much power is out.
