SGA graduates 35

SGA graduates 35 Seniors ready to receive their diplomas from school officials.
The 38th graduation exercise of Southwest Georgia Academy took place Thursday night, May 21, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. inside the Wayne Profitt Jr., Gymnasium in Damascus.

The graduates marched in to "Pomp and Circumstance" by Elgar played by Mrs. George Alto Warrick Jr. They were led into the gymnasium by the junior marshals who were Benjamin Mark Burkett, Danielle Spence Powell, Nicholas Daniel Lawrence, Kyndal Elizabeth Andrews, Jillian Reece Ingram, Michaelyn Teresa Newberry, Sarah Lindsey Oliver and Jonathan Taylor Arnold.

Miles Heard Lee gave the invocation and led the packed gymnasium of proud parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends in the Pledge of Allegiance.

William Tate Murdock Jr. gave the welcome, followed by Brittany Meagan Bowen introducing the speakers for the graduation.

The top three graduates, Lane Miles Hudson, Mary Wallace Corrigan, and Erin Kaye Simmerock each gave speeches of their years at Southwest Georgia Academy and what the future holds for each of them.

The honor graduates are Victoria Elizabeth Askew, Daniel Wilson Bayman, Laura Leigh Bell, Brittany Meagan Bowen, Willis Wade Brown, Mary Wallace Corrigan, Lane Miles Hudson, Miles Heard Lee, William Tate Murdock Jr., Megan Alexandria Odom, Chandler Alan Ray, Erin Kaye Simmerock, and Ansley Gail Stewart.

Willis Wade Brown introduced the special music for the evening. "Whenever You Remember" by Carrie Underwood was sung by the senior class ensemble under the direction of Mrs. Arthur Joe Sloan.

Chandler Alan Ray introduced Mrs. Marcus Cleon Gibbs, senior class sponsor, as she presented the Class of 2009.

Daniel Wilson Bayman introduced the headmaster of SGA, Mr. Douglas Woodham Dease, as he presented special awards to the class.

Megan Alexandria Odom and Laura Leigh Bell gave the roll call of the seniors.

Mr. Douglas Woodham Dease and Mr. Jeffrey Carroll Brown, chairman of the Board, presented the diplomas after which the class performed a special musical rendition of, "I'm Not Gonna Cry" by Corey Smith.

The farewell was given by Victoria Elizabeth Askew following by the singing of the school Alma Mater.

Ansley Gail Stewart give the benediction before the class marched out to "War March of the Priests" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. George Alto Warrick Jr.
