Red Hills Gerontology Symposium held

Kay Hind Kay Hind The Red Hills Gerontology Symposium was held March 19, 2009, at Thomas University. The focus of this year's meeting was "Caring for the elderly and resources for seniors."

The symposium brings together representatives from several area agencies, groups and organizations to discuss issues central to gerontology. Special presentations were given at the event as well as awards for outstanding work in this field.

Kay Hind, executive director for the SOWEGA Council on Aging, received the "Gerontology Educator of the Year" Award for the 30+ years she has advocated for the wellbeing of the elderly in southwest Georgia. She has served as chair of the Georgia Council on Aging and was the past president of the Southeastern Area Agencies on Aging and has been a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in 1971, 1981, 1995 and 2005.
