Wrecked motorcycle in church parking lot Race ends in wreck
Sunday evening, April 19, around 8:00 p.m. Colquitt Police Department Captain Dan Stone was running a stationary radar on Milford Street at the gas pumps.

Officer Stone observed a motorcycle coming down the road at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle was checked on the radar at 62 mph in a 35 mph speed zone.

Officer Stone pulled out and turned on the blue lights to stop the driver of the motorcycle. The motorcycle began to pick up more speed.

The officer advised the 911 operator that he was in a chase and initiated all emergency equipment.

The driver of the motorcycle turned right on to 4th Street from Milford, almost wrecking. As sparks were visible from under the motorcycle, he proceeded south on 4th Street to Pine Street. He made a right turn on Pine Street toward the First Baptist Church, after which he attempted to make a right turn off Pine back onto Milford St. through the parking lot of the First Baptist Church. This is when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

At this time Officer Griffin arrived on the scene and handcuffed the suspect offender, Lonnie Lemar Grant, 41, of 256 Washington Street, Colquitt.

The suspect was checked for injuries. He had some scrapes on his hand and arms but refused treatment by Miller County EMTs.

A large crowd of spectators arrived at the scene with some cursing and making threats to the police officers present. The officers handled the crowd by telling them to disperse and go home. No other arrests were made.

The suspect was taken to the Miller County Jail where he was booked on speeding and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
