Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith, 72, of Newton died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Mrs. Smith was born August 14, 1936, in Homasassa, FL. She was the daughter of the late Osmond James and Theresa Iona Arrett Huggins. Mrs. Smith was retired from Mitchell County Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Parker- Bramlett Funeral Home with Rev. Steve H. Bush and Rev. Mark Willis officiating. Interment followed in Kelly Cemetery in Miller County.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Watson, Jimi Sealy, T.J. Cook, Jason Smith, Josh Smith, and Matthew Bush.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Smith, Newton; children, Johnny (Debbie) Smith, Albany, Theresa (David) Bice, McDonough, Joey (Sonya)Smith, Leesburg, Jackie (Steve) Bush, Newton, Joyce (Tony) Cook, Colquitt, Liz (Billy) Watson, Newton, Sandra (Don) Palmer, Newton, Larry (Rhonda) Smith, Albany; a sister, Margaret Bringle, Cleveland, TN; a brother, Russell Huggins, Christiana, PA; 20 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas James Smith; two brothers, Robert Huggins and Eugene Huggins; and two sisters, Lavonda Martinez and Shirley Lewis.

Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
