Swamp Gravy ends season by thanking cast members

Swamp Gravy ended its spring season on Saturday evening, March 28.

There might have been storms, floods and bad weather on the outside, but inside of Cotton Hall the many community volunteers gave a sterling performance to a sell-out crowd that showed its appreciation for the talented actors and actresses in the play, Ain't No Tellin',

After the play, master of ceremonies, Jonathan Stober, asked the audience to sit back down. Something really special was about to happen.

One of the stars of the performance, Amy Thomas then called two of the young stars to the front stage.

Mrs. Thomas first introduced Joanna Richardson as one of the charter members of the Swamp Gravy cast. She started back 16 years ago when she was just over one year old. She has been in the cast ever since and never missed a season. During her years as a Swamper, she had the honor of performing at the Kennedy Center in Washington,D.C. and at the Olympics in Atlanta. Joanna's other accomplishments include receiving the Presidential Service Award from President Georgia W. Bush. She is also a senior superlative at SGA, received the DAR award, and was a member of the #1 Region One Act Play at SGA. Joanna will graduate this year from SGA and go to Bainbridge College.

Joanna's parents, Kent and Tammy Richardson, are also charter members of Swamp Gravy. They also played her parents in this play.

Mrs. Thomas then introduced Will Murdock. He is also a senior at SGA and is Mr. SGA. He was a member of the #1 Region One Act Play at SGA and has been a cast member of Swamp Gravy for five years. He also started the Swamp Gravy children's plays and has directed four of them. He wrote the play Circus Marvello. Will plans to attend Georgia State University on a scholarship, where he will major in film and theatre.

Will is the son of Betty Murdock and Bill Murdock.

Mrs. Thomas presented Joanna and Will a $500 scholarship check each for being a cast member their four years in high school.

Following the presentation, a reception was held in Cotton Hall in honor of these two fine young people. A special cake was cut, wishing the two the best as they finish their career with Swamp Gravy and go on to higher learning.
