Jerry Lewis savage

Mr. Jerry Lewis Savage, age 74, of Griffin passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2009.

Mr. Savage was born on September 3, 1934, in Piedmont, Alabama, to the late Lewis Francis Savage and the late Lila Monteel Woods Savage. He was a graduate of Auburn University School of Business and was a member of Auburn's Naval ROTC. He served as an officer of the United States Navy's Harbor Defense Unit in the Panama Canal Zone. On June 11, 1960, Jerry married Sue Louis Cross. Mr. Savage helped organize and was president of the Bank of Griffin from 1967 until shortly after Bank South acquired the Bank of Griffin in the late 1980s. In 1971, he was awarded "Man of the Year" from the City of Griffin. Mr. Savage was an active member of First Baptist Church, Griffin with membership on the Board of Deacons and the Scouting Committee, Missions Ministry, Benevolence Ministry and a member of the Bolton Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sue Cross Savage; daughter, Cynthia Cross Savage; daughter, Sharon Savage Deaton and her husband Steven Graham Deaton; grandchildren, Lila Victoria Deaton and Graham Lewis Deaton; sister, Jane Savage Heston Cline; several nieces and nephews.

Celebration and Praise service, to the glory of God in honor of Jerry's life was conducted on Sunday, March 8, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Griffin. Reverend Bruce Martin, Dr. Bruce Morgan, and Dr. Bill Hardee officiated.

Conner-Westbury Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
