The Bus Station holds grand opening & ribbon cutting

Large crowd attends The Bus Station grand opening. Large crowd attends The Bus Station grand opening. A dream became reality Friday, March 6, when the old bus station on the square was once again bubbling with activity.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting for Colquitt's newest business, The Bus Station, overwhelmed owners, Lori Haddock Cannon and Janna Hornsby Cobb. They were touched by the out-pouring of support from this great Colquitt community.

Just a few short weeks ago, Lori and Janna were bouncing ideas back and forth about a new business, not a gift shop, but a "gallery of sorts." They wanted a place where local artists and creators of all kinds of art could display and sell their creations while the artists could do what they do best - create. The old bus station was the perfect location for the gallery, but what to name such an unusual place? The Bus Station, of course. Everyone in Colquitt has always referred to that building as the bus station, so it seemed only natural.

The art is an eclectic mix of acrylic art, photography, natural wood, water color and fantasy art, just to name a few. Artists on display are Jerry Miller Photography, Buck Taylor Photography, Lori Tenent Photography, Priscilla Perkins water color, Jason Sheffield fantasy art, Cary Collie acrylic artist, Jerry Carter wood carver, Sam Lightsey mixed media, Tom and Darlene Benefield mixed media and photography, Glynn Wehrley glass art, Sam Jackson jewelry and catering, Lori Haddock acrylic and natural design. Custom photography services such as photo prints, enlargements, canvas productions, art/ photo notecards are also available.

In addition, The Bus Station offers the finest gifts around. Joanna Bradford is the owner of J. Bradford's, a mix of the best houseware gifts, personalized candles, home decor, children's gifts, and the best collection of "tween" gifts around, including Groovy Girls. Customized candles are available at any time. The Bus Station is blessed to have Joanna along with us on this journey.

Lori and Janna chose Colquitt for this venture because Colquitt caters to the art community and has a strong cultural art in itself with the mural project and Swamp Gravy.

We will also offer monogramming and custom design work. Wedding, baby and graduation registration is available. Look on our website for more information at www.thebusstation. org. or on our Facebook group page. Our hours are Tuesday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. - 3:00; Sunday (seasonally) 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and extended hours for Swamp Gravy and other town events.
