Church organizes basketball league

The Colquitt First Baptist Church began the new year by organizing a basketball league for children in the community. Fifty-five children, ages 7-12, participated in this league. Games were played on Saturday mornings throughout January and February at the Miller County Elementary School gym. During intermission between games, a motivational devotion and prayer were held with all present.

The season ended on Monday, February 23, with an awards program at First Baptist Church. Each participating child received a "Most Valuable Player" certificate and received individual recognition during the program. The guest speaker for the event was Kevin Hines, more commonly known as, Chappy. He is the chaplain for the University of Georgia Bulldogs Football team. Participants were as follows: 7 and 8-year-old "Black" Team - Tucker Spence, Devan Patterson, Jazlyn Bush, Talvin Daniels, Aaron Haire, Janorris Bryd, QuDaish Kelly, Jahmeria Grant, Nicholas Porter, Lacorsica Johnson, Coach Toby Spence; 7 and 8-year-old "Red" Team - Antonio Webb, Julian Williams, Brian Williams, Will Durham, Tamia Calloway, Eli Beaty, Justin Grimsley, Jalen Hodge, Josh Grimsley, JM Bryan, Coaches Todd Godfrey, Felix Grimsley, and Tammy Grimsley; 9-year-old "Black" Team - Briana Kelly, Jasmine Calloway, Javarius Butler, Travis Nash, Dakota Phillips, Austin Chapman, Leslie Roseborough, Jamya Calloway, Coach Willie Butler; 9-year-old "Red" Team - K. J. Warren, Kohler Tabb, Brandon Simpson, Gene Douglas, Jacoby Register, Lane Odom, Coaches-Stephanie Odom and Porter Warren; 10-12-year-old "Black" Team - Damion Calloway, Kevontae Kelly, Jalen Bush, Neandvia Johnson, Audriana Bridley, Dylan Jones, Tavis Burney, Deshon Patterson, Jacob Porter, Tykeria Holmes, Coach Larry Bush; 10-12-yearold 'Red' Team - Blake Green, Cambrion Baker, Cole Green, Rebekah Foster, Amber Watson, Rashaan Berry, Sherie Perkins, J.J. George, Tori Green, Jasmine Kyles, Coach David Green.
