by MCL staffwriter

Good crowd attends Hope Cottage grand opening. Good crowd attends Hope Cottage grand opening. A large crowd gathered last Friday, February 20, at 2:00 p.m. for Colquitt's newest business, Hope Cottage Family Health Care. Hope Cottage is owned and operated by a Christian Family Nurse Practitioner, Jane L. Gordon, who is no stranger to the area. She and her husband are also the owners of The Captain's Cup, the coffee shop on the square.

Veryl Garland Cockey, Colquitt/ Miller Chamber of Commerce president, welcomed everyone to the ribbon cutting and told how proud the chamber was in her selecting Colquitt to open her practice.

Debra Atkinson, chairman of the Community Development Corporation, also welcomed

Hope Cottage Family Health Care. It is a family practice medical care clinic located at 201 N Cuthbert St. in Colquitt, just two doors down from the hospital.

Jane has been in the health care field for more than 30 years. Joined by Beverly Cannon, MA, and Jessica Shirley, SRN, their vision and mission is to serve those who seek to be healthy; body, mind and spirit, by providing expert, compassionate caring health care to everyone, including those who have been medically under-served for one reason or another. They accept all insurances as well as self pay patients and charge the absolute minimum they possibly can. They are now a full service family health care clinic as Dr. John B. Abell, MD, has recently joined their team as our collaborating physician. Dr. Abell is a brilliant internist who has a private practice in Albany, where he also practices conventional and complementary medicine and has a reputation for implementing therapies that truly heal. As a truly "full service" family practice, they will work cooperatively with you as part of the team, to compose a care plan that will restore or improve your total health. You will have the option of choosing conventional medical interventions as well as complementary, or alternative therapies.

Currently, they offer isolated medical massage of tender, injured muscles, tendons and ligaments, therapeutic ultrasound, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, fomentations, herbal, nutritional and vitamin supplementation, exercise and nutrition counseling and Christian counseling.

Conventional interventions include:

• Full prescriptive authority (although we do not believe in prescribing narcotics which are dangerous and addictive),

• Long term care of chronic conditions such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, COPD and renal disease, including medication management

• Acute and urgent care from infancy through the senior years, complete history and physicals, assessments, and diagnosis

• Very reasonable lab drawing services with rapid result time

• In office EKG, minimal diagnostic ultrasound in office

• Referral for radiologic studies and specialty care, women's health & health screenings, PAPS

• Men's health & screenings,

• Children's well child exams, immunizations and screenings (we participate in VFC)

• Pharmacologic and simple office procedures, including cryotherapy, dermatologic procedures, biopsies and removal of superficial lesions.

• Those at the clinic are excited to now offer full physical therapy services in our clinic on Thursdays in conjunction with William Deon Foster, PTA, and Dr and Associates Rehabilitation LLC.

Jane says, "We are a new practice but hope soon to expand our services in the areas of total medical massage, speech therapy, chelation therapy and Christian counseling by appointment. In addition, our collaborating physician, Dr. John B. Abell is available for more complex challenges."

"If this sounds like what you have yearned for in health care, come visit us at the little yellow cottage in Colquitt, GA; HOPE COTTAGE! The name says it all!" commented Jane.
