Colquitt has a story to tell
On Friday, Feb. 6, visitors from all over the country will gather at Cotton Hall to participate in the third annual Building Creative Communities Conference. These folks have heard of Colquitt, Georgia, and how the community gathered oral histories from its citizens and turned them into a play that has brought thousands of visitors to our town over the past 15 years. They have heard how beautiful songs were written and about the murals that have been painted in town and how because of this, Colquitt has become an international model for economic development using the creativity of its local citizens.
Those attending the conference will participate in story telling circles, turn the stories into a "Swamp Gravy" style play in which they will perform, attend a workshop on murals and a grant writing class.
