'Marley and Me' Film Review:
"Marley and Me" is a charming comedy following the life of John Grogan (portrayed by Owen Wilson), who is a proud newlywed to a fellow writer, Jenny (Jennifer Aniston). Everything seems to be coming up roses until Jenny mentions the prospect of having a baby, and John is less than thrilled! Thinking that a dog would distract his wife from the hopes of motherhood, and be much less of a burden, Grogan adopts Marley, a spunky and vivacious "clearance puppy" that was immediately pegged "the worst dog in the world."
Based on the best selling novel written by John Grogan, "Marley and Me" perfectly captures the trials and tribulations of a growing family, everything from marital problems to accidental pregnancies, and you can be guaranteed that Marley will be watching every step of the way! I was delightfully surprised that the movie was so much more than a tearjerker chick flick; it has very deep themes and plots that provoke much thought about not taking your life or loved ones for granted.
The cast performances were well played including Alan Arkin as John's no nonsense boss, Eric Dane as "Sebastian," a fun loving playboy, and Kathleen Turner, who played Ms. Kombult, a far less than amiable dog trainer. The young actors who played the Grogan children credibly portrayed their characters, but perhaps the most convincing was 10-year-old Nathan Gamble (who portrayed the role of Patrick). Aniston and Wilson also deliver incredible performances as the leading characters in "Marley and Me." An all star cast and clever dialogue aside, this movie is all the more appealing because it is based entirely on a true story.
"Marley and Me," directed by David Frankel, is a Fox Regency Enterprizes film. This movie has been rated PG for "Thematic Material, Some." Visit www. marleyandmemovie.com for more details, enjoy this truly beautiful film, and don't forget to "Heel the Love!"
