Ebony Dots & Dashes
by Katie Smith

I had a phone call last Sunday morning before I went to church. My cousin Mrs. Louise Gilmore of Waco, Texas, called and we had an old-fashioned gab fest, one of joy and pleasure. She had plans to visit Georgia on April 22. Her son, Tommy Lauier Gilmore, is retiring from the services, and she plans to attend. I Hope she can. Mrs. Gilmore is the daughter of the late Mrs. Ethel Maud Benton.

Mr. Willie C. Bush spent some time in Palmyra Hospital in Albany last week. He was dismissed on Friday and is doing fine.

Mrs. Georgia M. Jay will go for her next visit to her doctor next week. We hope she gets a good report.

Mrs. Vicki J. Dunnell, Mrs. Katie Smith, Mrs. Ozzie B. Roberts, Ms. Gloria Roberts, Ms. Janay Aricheta, Mr. Willie Edward Pittman, Ms. Cynthia Kimbrel worshipped at St. Mary M.B. Church in Early County where Rev. Edward Williams is pastoring. They were celebrating Family and Friends Day. The Rev. Fred Moore was the guest minister, and he did a beautiful job.

I was glad to see Mrs. Jauan Balkman home from the Hospital. She says she is free of pain at the present. Her mother, Mrs. Louise Green, is here with her while she gains strength.

I heard that Mr. Rowe Taylor Jr. was killed by a driver as he fixed a flat tire on last Saturday and was sorry to hear such sad news. He lived in Florida. His mother and father were good friends of mine.

Mrs. Dicie M. Cheatem is still in the hospital in Tallahassee, FL. Hopefully she will improve and be able to come home.

Called a friend, Mrs. Verdell Cheatem on Monday. We had an old time visit by phone. She is one of my choice people. She likes to talk, and so do I. We are church buddies as well.

Mrs. Gladys Jones spent the day with Mrs. Clara Toliver last Sunday. Both were on the sick list, not in bed sick, just not feeling their usual chipper selves.

Mrs. Ida Bradly celebrated a birthday last week. Many returns of the day.

St. Mary M.B. Church celebrated an anniversary last weekend. They had a grand time. Rev. Morris is the pastor.
