Politics getting hotter as pay-in time nears
by MCL staffwriter

In this edition of the Miller County Liberal, Jennifer Moore and Randy Brown are announcing that they will offer themselves for the office of Clerk of Superior Court of Miller County.

Terry Pickle is also announcing that he will seek re-election to Miller County Board of Education District 5.

Candidates have been offering themselves for election or re-election for the last several weeks.

There are 13 offices that are up for election or reelection in the county. Out of these 13, there have been candidates who have announced their intentions to offer for election or reelection in this newspaper except for Miller County Commissioner District 1, State Court Judge, and State Court Solicitor.

As candidates announce in this newspaper, we will continue to report. We will not speculate on who may be running.

Any citizen of this county who meets the qualifications to run for office can announce at anytime. The official four and one-half days' time window that candidates can file for candidacy in the office of probate judge to run in the July 15, 2008 General Primary will open Monday, April 28, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12 noon, Friday, May 2, 2008.

When the candidates sign up to qualify to run for a particular office, candidates must declare which primary (Democrat or Republican) they are running in, unless they run only in the nonpartisan election on November 4.

The winners in their pri mary post will be on the General Election ballot on November 4, 2008.

In the July 15, 2008 General Primaries, the registered voters must also choose which primary they will vote in, Democrat or Republican.

Qualified citizens of Miller County can register to vote in the General Prima- ries during the regular business hours through June 16 at the Miller County Office of Registrars. Only you can vote for your choice of candidates if you are registered to vote.

Please see the official Georgia Calendar of Election Events and the qualifying fees for the local races on page 19 of this edition.
