Flimflam crooks in town
by MCL writer

All people, especially the elderly who live alone, are urged to be on the look-out for people coming to their homes wanting to help them or give them something. Whatever you call it- fraud, confidencegames, scams, rip-offs, swindles, rackets, shell games, deceptions and flimflam - they are around and in the Colquitt area.

The most recent is a man who comes to the house wanting to help with heating and cooling assistance from the government. He asks to come inside to measure the rooms. While he is "measuring," he or another person goes through the house and steals money or other valuables.

This has been done in past years and was done to an elderly person in the past week in Colquitt. The crook or crooks took several thousand dollars while in the person's home pretending to be of help.

If anyone calls or comes to your home and asks for any type personal information, do not give it to him or her. Many of these people are dangerous. If they will steal, lie and cheat, they may hurt or even kill the victim.

The local authorities are doing all they can to apprehend these crooks, but they need the help of the public to aid them in the arrests. All information given to the law enforcement agencies will be held in strict confidence.

Help catch these crooks who prey on the elderly.

The Colquitt Police Department and Miller County Sheriff's Officeask all residents to report anyone coming to your home trying to "help" you. Please do not let anyone inside your home that you do not know and call the Colquitt Police Department at 758-1006, Miller County Sheriff's officeat 758-3421 or 911. Call immediately, so the person or persons can be checked out to see if they are legitimate or crooks.
