Miller County's Relay for Life theme for 2008 is "Be A Cancer Free State in 2008." Sights around are showing evidence that Relay for Life is coming soon.
Pretty purple and pink bows are on doors and around the lamp posts. Signs are throughout the city, and excitement is in the air!
Teams like Colquitt United Methodist Church, Peoples- South Bank, Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church, Miller County High School, Miller County Hospital/Nursing Home, and Bellview Free Will Baptist Church are just a few of the teams that are working hard raising money to help fight the battle of cancer.
We need everyone to join in and enjoy the Relay for Life Friday, April 11, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Spring Creek Park. The opening will start with the survivor's walk which is a very touching experience. Mark your calendar for this special happening.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a very special event as this community comes together for a time of fun and fellowship while remembering and honoring victims of this dreaded disease we call cancer. As a part of this event, the walking track is lined with luminaries...each of which is lit in honor of someone who survived cancer, or in memory of some who did not, or any special person in your life.
The Luminary Ceremony will be held at approximately 9:00 p.m. on April 11, 2008. At this time the candles will be lit, and the names of those honored or remembered will be read from the luminary. It is a moving ceremony, which pays tribute to our friends and loved ones.
There are special events planned throughout the evening and will continue until the Relay ends at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12th. So bring your lawn chairs and spend the evening with us.
You still have time to purchase a luminaria to honor or remember someone special. You may contact Suzette Little at 229-758-5036 if you would like to purchase one.
