The Miller County Pirates had the luck of the Irish as they defeated Dougherty County, 11-7, on Monday Saint Patrick's Day up there in Albany. Russell Hart was the winning pitcher for the Pirates going four innings, and then Nick Rawlings came for the closure. In the top of the first, Nick Rawlings took a stroll down to first base. With Rawlings on and one out, Alan Love's single scored Rawlings, but then Dougherty answered back with two runs in the bottom half. Rawlings, along with Cody Philyaw and Shelton Pickle, scored in the top of the second inning, but again Dougherty came back with two more runs made by Kiaria Bishop and Dominique Shealy. The game was tied 4-4 with a new ball game. Both teams were scoreless in the third, and in the bottom of the fourth Dougherty scored two more runs, bringing the score to 6-4.

Dougherty scored again in the sixth, but it was in the top of the seventh inning that our Pirates' bats came to life, and they moved out in front and held onto the win. Six runs were scored from the Pirates' offense, and then Dougherty tried for the win but was unsuccessful.

On Tuesday, March 18, our Pirates hosted Baconton here at Everett Field. Tyler Cox was the starting pitcher for four innings, and Nick Rawlings controlled the last three. This was a great defensive game from both sides of the bench. Baconton scored four runs to Miller County's two runs made by Shelton Pickle and Dalton Snipes.

On March 20, Miller County traveled back up to Albany to the Monroe High Tornadoes. Allen Love was the winning pitcher. The Indians scored a lone run off a Pirate error. It was in the third and fourth innings that the Pirates put the points on the scoreboard. Nick Rawlings had a double, 2 RBIs, and a run. Caleb Cunningham had two walks and a run. Tyler Cox had two walks, an RBI, and a run. Alan Love had two walks and two runs. Russell Hart was two for three with an RBI, walk, and two runs, Cody Philyaw was two for four with a walk and two runs, Shelton Pickle was two for three with a walk, an RBI, and two runs. Dalton Snipes had a walk, an RBI, and a run. The final score was Miller County Pirates, 12, to Monroe High's 1.

The Pirates traveled over to Donalsonville to face the Indians. That game will be in next week's article. The coaches and team appreciated everyone coming out showing their support. Let's keep that Pirate spirit up for our Pirate Baseball Team!
