A Miller County man was killed in a one vehicle accident on Sunday, March 23.

The first call to the Miller County E911 came at 1:50 a.m., Sunday by a woman on her way home. The 911 operator dispatched law enforcement officers, ambulance crew and emergency workers to the scene.

According to officialreports, Harold Cook had left Floyd's Place, located on SR91 north, earlier and was on his way home when the accident occurred. A worker at Floyd's Place discovered the overturned truck on Avenue Road, near Counce Drive as she was going home.

Coroner Danny Sheffield stated that the victim was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:59 a.m.

The accident occurred when Harold Oliver Cook, 51, of 289 Wacaser Road, was driving his 2000 Dodge Dakota south on Avenue Road. While negotiating a curve, the pickup truck drifted off the roadway which caused the driver to over-correct and lose control of his vehicle. The vehicle overturned once, coming to rest on its top with the final resting spot on the east side of the roadway.

Georgia State Patrol was called to the scene.

The incident report indicated that the accident occurred on a dry, dirt road, just after a curve in the road.

The contributing factors causing the accident was listed as D.U.I and driver lost control. Results of alcohol and drug tests are pending tests.

The damage to the vehicle was extensive, and it was owned by the driver.

The incident was investigated by State Trooper J. E. Miller.
