Two injured in head-on wreck
The first report stated that there were no injuries, but when Colquitt Police officer, Hollis Smith arrived he found that there were two victims injured from a near head-on collision. The collision occurred when Jordan Lee Kirkland, 17, of 644 Bellview Rd. was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer on Main Street and turned on Cuthbert Street, Kirkland thought he passed out. He stated that he remembers seeing the light pole that he hit and saw the car that he attempted to miss, but couldn't. Casey Miller, 22, of 1410 Grady Cobb Rd., stated that she was sitting inside her 2004 Honda Accord, located on the inside lane next to the courthouse. Ms. Miller was working from her laptop computer and first heard Kirkland's truck. She then saw headlights, and his vehicle struck Ms. Miller's auto head-on. Both occupants of the two vehicles were injured. EMS technicians and Colquitt/ Miller Fire & Rescue officersaided in getting the victims into the ambulance. It was unknown if either victim was wearing safety equipment. The air bags on both vehicles failed to deployed. Mr. Kirkland sustained visible cuts and abrasions. Ms. Miller complained with head injuries. Both injured victims were taken to the local hospital for treatment. Mr. Kirkland was treated and released. Ms. Miller was entered into the hospital for more tests. According to the incident report, both vehicles sustained extensive damage. No citations were issued by investigating officer,Hollis Smith. |
