GILBERT MEED KELLEY SR. Mr. Gilbert Meed Kelley Sr., age 75, of Donalsonville "signed off the air" Thursday morning, February 21, 2008, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. Mr. Kelley was born in Cowan, TN, on April 2, 1932, to the late H.K. and Theona Harpe Kelley. He was owner of our local radio station WSEM-AM, WGMKFM, and WBBK-FM&AM and was involved with broadcasting for well over 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and past president of Donalsonville Lion's Club and Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 23, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Donalsonville with Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville. Pallbearers were Ed King, Scott Mitchell, Brad Clarke, Greg Whittaker, Howard Whittaker, Marc Godby, and John Thomas. Honorary pallbearers were Jack and Polly Brannon, J.B. and Laurie Clarke, Alf and Jeanette Greene, Luther and Martha Nell Spooner, Bo and Carolyn McLeod, Billy and Betty Jane Spooner, Eugene and Jackie Hornsby, Jack and Ruth Shamblin, Bud and Lila Youmans, and Mary Helon King. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Grace Kelley, Donalsonville; children, Steve Farley and wife, Vicki, Eufaula, AL, Pam Chain and husband, Gary, Hattiesburg, MS, Gil Kelley Jr., Donalsonville, Cyndi Middleton and husband, Mike, Colquitt; three sisters, Mary Faeber, Chula Vista, CA, Sally Lucero, Portland, OR, Judy Rohrs, Kissimmee, FL; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Giglio, Brian Farley, Kelly McKenzie, Zach Chain, Hannah Grace Chain, Meed Kelley, Georgia Farley, Chad Newberry, Brooke Newberry, Michael Middleton Jr., and Jamie Middleton; nine greatgrandchildren, Haleigh Giglio, Adrienne Giglio, Brianne Farley, Kristen Farley, Elizabeth McKenzie, Eli McKenzie, Harlie Middleton, MaKaylie Middleton, and Lillie Middleton; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Kelley, Thad Kelley, Bob Kelley and a sister, Margaret Kelley. Evans Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
